Love is a fruit…

I had every intention of jumping right into 1Corinthians 13:4-8… until I realized how important it is for us to first understand that love is a fruit.

As people filled with the Holy Spirit we are able to do ALL things through Him (Phil 4:13.) The saying goes that the Lord will not give you more than you can handle, but the truth is the Lord will give you more than you can handle so that you will come to a point where you must rely on him and do things through HIS strength. This brings me to my thought about love being a choice rather than a feeling… We have a choice to do it through HIS strength and love in the midst of a tough situation and rejoice in success or to do it in our own strength and fail.

Just as a fruit tree produces fruit as it grows, so do we. As we grow in our faith and learn to do all things through His strength, we begin to produce fruit… the fruit of the spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us”But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness.”

We must understand that true love is only able through Him. It is when we choose to bear our cross and die to our selfishness that we bear the fruit of love.

My love to all,

Rachel

This is something far too many do not understand and far fewer practice! It makes a huge difference in every aspect of our walk with Him! The closer I come to Him, the more I see how truly important it is to CHOOSE Him and His ways, with our every breath!

Oh how I need the fruit of patience!

Worship Wednesday… Show Me How to Love.

As I sat at the table for breakfast with our family, the kids began talking about what their favorite songs are… Jared said he loves the Veggie tales song “I’m big, but God’s bigger…,” and then Kylie said she loves the song “Show Me How to Love.” And I felt a little touch in my heart… it needed to be my first Worship Wednesday.

Take a moment to listen.:)

Passed by you today
Why is there a war between us?
Are you not my brother?
Are you not my sister?
Something’s got to change
Stood by you today
Why is there a wall between us?
Are you not my sister?
Are you not my brother?
Well something’s got to change
I confess that I’ve been blind
Open up this heart of mine
Show me how to love
Farther than this world I know
Take me where You want me to go
Show me how to love
I know the times are always changing
But our hearts still beat the same
We have a Father
We have a Savior
And that will never change
I confess that I’ve been blind
Open up this heart of mine
Show me how to love
Farther than this world I know
Take me where You want me to go
Show me how to love
We are one heart beating
We are one body breathing
We are broken and needing
The same love of the Father
I confess that I’ve been blind
I confess, start with me, Lord

I adore the verses “I confess that I’ve been blind, Open up this heart of mine, Show me how to love.” It’s so easy to fill your sight with what you want to see and be completely blind to whats real and true… It’s easy to be selfish. But we should be praying for the Lord to open our eyes and our hearts… and to show us how to love those around us. What is it that those around us are in need of?

Lord, Open our eyes and our hearts today to those who are in need and show us how to spread love in a new way.

My love to all,

Rachel

I have never heard this song or this band. Thanks for sharing!

What is love?

When I think about love, I think about the feeling I have in my heart for my family. I think about how my heart feels when I receive flowers from my husband out of the blue for no reason… how it feels listening to my three children laugh… the feeling of a much needed hug.

But, as I have spent time studying love… I have come to realize that it’s more of a choice than a feeling. True love chooses to shine amidst the not so happy times… in the “I love you anyway” moments.

This is the beginning of something… the beginning of a journey. I invite you to join me to continue on this journey of discovering what love truly is… The One who is love, how He loves us, & how we are to be a reflection of His love to others.

My love to all,

Rachel
